DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:

HIS MONSTER explores the idea of true horror in the grips of addiction and grief.

I wanted to highlight the struggles of addiction, numbing pain with substance and abuse and in a fantastical way, and show how these addictions can bring harm to those closest to us, in this case a loose killer Monster. I myself went through an experience of alcohol abuse from a stressful work environment that I recovered from and have refrained from drinking for over 5 years. Writing and directing this film was an emotional undertaking that ultimately felt extremely cathartic and healing.

It's my hope to shine a light on the discussion of addiction and abuse in a true-to-life story that plays with magical realism.

I drew a lot of inspiration from my long time love of practical effects, the work of Guillermo Del Toro and Jim Henson’s projects like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth and my longtime love of The X-Files tv-series and the monsters of the week episodes.
